“SAVE THE ZOO” MONTH

THE ZOO OF NORTHWEST FLORIDA

OCTOBER 1, 2007 

WHEREAS,  the month of October 2007 has been proclaimed “Save the Zoo” Month” in honor of the Zoo of Northwest Florida by authorization of the Santa Rosa Island Authority, Pensacola Beach, Florida; and

WHEREAS, the observance of this special month affords our citizens the opportunity to show their support and appreciation for the Zoo of Northwest Florida which generates over $6.5 million new dollars and 90 jobs annually for our community;

WHEREAS, the Zoo of Northwest Florida is one of the largest zoos in the country with over 50 acres & 1,400 wild animals on exhibit,  including species from all over the world creating a living laboratory, science center and wildlife preserve for visitors and residents of Northwest Florida;

WHEREAS, the Zoo is a family attraction second only to the Naval Air Museum as the largest tourist attraction in Northwest Florida,  providing  important educational and cultural experiences for over 30,000 school kids annually and nearly 2,000 families who are ZooFriends members and visit free all year;

WHEREAS, the Zoo adds to the local economy and gives back to the community in exceptional ways such as the Gulf Power Conservation Educational Environmental Learning Center at the Zoo, the first complex of its kind;

WHEREAS, there are many ways that citizens can support the Zoo in the Month of October, either by attending a fundraising event, making a donation to the Conservation, Education and Zoo Improvement Fund, providing items from the Zoo’s Wish list, sponsoring an exhibit or simply visiting the Zoo and buying a family membership.

 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the month of October 2007 is hereby set aside to be observed as SAVE THE ZOO MONTH  in our community, urging all citizens to join in recognizing and honoring the Zoo in the sincere hope that our efforts will enable the Zoo of Northwest Florida to continue its role as an outstanding organization in our community for many  years to come.
